CONTRIBUTE LIBERALLY FOR RELIEF OF FLOOD AFFECTED IN GUJARAT

Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind has expressed concern over the heavy loss of life and property by floods in Gujarat. Jamiat has issued an appeal for liberal contributions for relief of the flood-affected. According to a rough estimate, The loss in Ahmadabad, Kheddah, Anand, Baroda, Nadiad, Bharauch, Surat, Navsari, etc is estimated to be five billions. A Jamiat team conducted a preliminary survey of flood-affected areas of Gujarat. The team reported that sixty per cent of Baroda city is covered with water. The loss only in that area is estimated to exceed thirty billions. Surat and adjoining suburbs have suffered a loss of twelve billions of rupees. Rainwater has entered houses in Anand, Rarapore, Borsad, Eklao, Dakore, Kinjari, Chakrore and many other places. Water is ten feet high at certain places. Ahmadabad –Baroda express highway has been closed. On Balasore-Nadia route a bus got submerged under water, causing death of all 42 passengers on board. All trains bound for Bombay from Ahmadabad have been cancelled. About 5000, village of Nadia, Anand and Kheddah have no power for more than a week. Surat, Baroda, Borsad, Eklao, Dakore and several other places have been handed over to the Army. The prices of milk, vegetables and other essentials of life have skyrocketed. Three hundred thousand persons of Surat, Baroda and Navsari have been shifted to safe places. Half a million people are in severe distress. Eleven hundred roads are punctured. Power has been disconnected in 31 cities team of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is going round Ahmadabad, Dakore, Kunjari etc and other affected areas. The team includes Maulana Hakeemuddin Qasmi, Prof. Nisar Ahmad Ansari, Hafiz Basheer Ahmad, Maulana Sajid, Dr. Javed and others. Wherever it was possible, Jamiat has started relief work. There is acute shortage of food grains, milk powder for children, water for drinking, medicines, plastic sheets as well as cash. Maulana Asad Madani, president, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has appealed to all philanthropists and welfare minded persons to render ever possible in the hour of distress.
